Sowiso 2025: Our Year in Numbers | Growth, Impact & AI Highlights

At Sowiso, we remain committed to strengthening STEM education through innovative, scalable technology. Our goal is to support teachers in saving time while helping students learn more effectively and confidently at their own pace.

Just like previous years, 2025 brought rapid developments in education, technology, and AI. And once again, we worked to translate these changes into meaningful improvements on the platform.

As 2025 has come to an end, we’re proud to look back on what we achieved together and excited to share some highlights with you.

Our year in numbers

In 2025, Sowiso continued to grow as a trusted learning and practice platform for higher education. Across institutions worldwide, the platform was used in thousands of courses to support learning, practice, and assessment.

During the year, 12.428 classes were conducted on Sowiso, with an average of 37 students per class. In total, 455.954 users worked on the platform, engaging with content across a wide range of STEM disciplines.

Student engagement remained strong throughout the year. Learners viewed theory pages more than 3.6 million times and attempted over 47.6 million exercises. These numbers highlight the central role of practice in developing mathematical and scientific skills and reflect the intensive use of Sowiso during the learning process.

Assessment activity also remained substantial. Tests on Sowiso contained an average of 12 questions, and students submitted 340.812 tests in total. Across these tests, more than 4.2 million questions were answered.

Sowiso’s global reach continued to expand in 2025. The platform was used by 48 higher education institutions and 8 publishers across 13 countries and 5 continents. This year, we welcomed Norway and Kenya as new regions, further strengthening Sowiso’s international presence.

A key highlight of 2025 was the growing adoption of our AI chatbot. Over the course of the year, students asked 6.351 questions to the chatbot, which 54 institutions activated. These figures reflect how AI support is becoming an integral part of the learning experience, lowering the threshold for students to ask questions and reducing teachers’ workload.

Together, these numbers represent more than scale alone. They reflect the trust educators place in Sowiso and the shared commitment to improving STEM education through practical digital tools.

New features

In 2025, our development efforts focused on improving learning support, streamlining content creation, and strengthening the platform’s technical foundation.

AI Chatbot

One of the most impactful developments this year was the continued rollout and adoption of the AI Chatbot. Designed to support students during practice, the chatbot provides structured, step-by-step explanations that are tailored to each exercise and its randomized values. Teachers reported that students find it easier to ask questions, that explanations are clear and reliable, and that the time spent answering forum questions has decreased significantly. In many cases, insights from chatbot interactions were also used to improve existing exercises further.

AI authoring assistant

Alongside student-facing AI, we worked on simplifying exercise creation for authors. Throughout 2025, we collaborated closely with a group of clients in a pilot phase for our AI authoring assistant. The goal was to reduce complexity and remove bottlenecks in the authoring process. Feedback from this pilot played a crucial role in shaping the feature as it exists today, and the assistant is scheduled for release early this year.

Stronger foundations behind the scenes

In parallel, we invested in further modernizing Sowiso’s underlying technology. By transitioning to a new infrastructure using Docker and AWS, we reached an important milestone in 2025. Although this work happens behind the scenes, it directly improves the user experience by enabling faster loading times, smoother interactions, fewer slowdowns during peak usage, and more stable releases.

Community & collaboration

Beyond product development, we continued to invest in community and collaboration. Quarterly Q&A sessions were launched, and an Accounting Community of Practice was introduced to support knowledge sharing among authors. Sowiso was also represented at several international conferences, including Didacta, Learntec, and AHE. In addition, the Schoolyear integration was launched, and our partnerships with Remindo, GeoGebra, OpenStax, and major LMS and VLE systems such as Canvas continued to strengthen.

What’s next in 2026?

2026 will be a year of consolidation, refinement, and continued innovation.

Content development remains a key focus. This year, we will release a redesigned Complex Numbers chapter for college-level STEM students, offering a rich mix of theory, interactive elements, videos, and practice exercises. We will also continue expanding our library of explanatory videos, particularly in mathematics and physics, as student feedback consistently shows how valuable these resources are for understanding complex topics.

In addition, our community initiatives will continue to grow. The first Q&A session of 2026 is already scheduled for March 2, with registration details available in the December meeting notes.

Thank you!

None of this would be possible without the continued trust and collaboration of our partner institutions, educators, publishers, and the many students who rely on Sowiso every day.

Thank you for working with us to make STEM education more accessible, engaging, and effective. We look forward to continuing this journey together this year.
